Areas of Expertise

Authoritative opinion
across critical domains

Legal proceedings involving aviation demand more than theoretical knowledge. They require a witness who has operated within the system under pressure — one who understands not just procedure, but the human and operational realities that procedures are designed to manage.

With senior operational experience at major UK airports, international leadership in Dubai, and a career spanning ATC operations, safety management, and executive consulting, I provide expert opinion that is both technically rigorous and clearly communicable to courts, tribunals, and arbitration panels.

01
Incident & Accident Liability
Analysis of ATC procedures, separation standards, controller actions, and systemic factors in aviation incidents. Causation and contributory factor assessment.
02
Employment Tribunals
Expert opinion in cases involving ATC licensing, competency assessment, dismissal, and discrimination within aviation operational environments.
03
Safety Management Systems
Assessment of SMS adequacy, implementation, and compliance. Analysis of safety culture, reporting systems, and risk management frameworks.
04
Regulatory Compliance
CAA, EUROCONTROL, and ICAO standards. Regulatory obligations of ANSPs, aerodromes, and ATC service providers. Licensing and competency frameworks.
05
Coroner's Inquests
Clear, accessible expert evidence to assist Coroners and juries in understanding ATC operational context, decisions under pressure, and systemic factors.
06
Insurance & Arbitration
Technical reports and oral evidence for aviation insurance disputes and international arbitration panels. Experience working across UK and Middle Eastern regulatory contexts.
"The gap between aviation expertise and legal understanding is where cases are won and lost. My role is to close that gap — with clarity, authority, and independence."
Professional Profile

34 years.
Every level.

My aviation career spans more than 30 years, beginning as an Air Traffic Controller at Heathrow and Gatwick approach control and progressing through senior leadership across the UK, Middle East, and Europe.

At NATS, over nearly 17 years, I held roles including Deputy Tower Supervisor at Manchester, Head of Safety at Manchester Area Control Centre, General Manager at Cardiff Airport, Operations Manager at Swanwick Centre, and Head of Operational Policy and Evolution. I then moved to Dubai as General Manager and subsequently Director of Air Traffic Services with Serco DANS, before being elected as Chair of the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) Operations Standing Committee — a global leadership role across the industry.

I now lead ATM Transformation Ltd, serve as ATC Training Manager at DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung in Frankfurt, and lecture at ITAérea Aeronautical Business School. I hold an MBA from the Open University and a Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
